Italiano's Pizza

I love Highland Park. York Boulevard is a lovely avenue full of trees and old storefronts. It's primed for a gentrification invasion. It's already happening on Figueroa, the other main drag of Highland Park. And, if you were to be a smart real estate investor and buy one of those lovely old craftsmen houses just off York Blvd., you would soon discover that Italiano's Pizza (5101 York Blvd.) is your first call for Pizza delivery.

Now there's nothing special about either of the locations (There's one on Figueroa, as well). It's not the kind of place you want to eat in, but the Pizza is decent and it's a welcome substitute to all the local chains that suck: Dominoes, Pizza Hut, etc. So, while your living in Highland Park and waiting for the Super-A-Foods to become a Gelson's, you can, at least, take comfort in knowing there's a place to get a good slice of pizza. Now, don't get me wrong. The Pizza is good relatively speaking. It's still much better to pop over the hill into Eagle Rock and pick up a pie from the best pizza West of the Mississippi: Casa Bianca Pizza Pie.

Casa Bianca pizza sucks! It is not the best pizza in Eagle Rock, let alone "west of the Mississippi!"

There's also a good delivery place somewhere in the hood called Pizza Boy #1 (not to be confused with Pizza Man). They have some insane deal where you order a large pizza and get a medium free, and it's good pizza.

I agree with madprofessah, Casa Bianca sucks. The only good thing about it is the laugh I have when I drive by seeing all the hipsters waiting around to pay too much money for crappy food just because everyone says how "cool" the place is. Even Colombos across the street has better pizza and GREAT atmosphere. Seriously, where is the good pizza in Eagle Rock?
If you are really jonesin', Lamonica's New York Pizza at 518 W 6th Street in downtown is the closest thing to a Ray's slice that I have had in LA.

Casa Bianca is pretty good, but Capri has much friendlier staff and you don't have to sit around drinking crappy over priced wine while waiting for a table.

I think Hard Times is over rated

I have to agree with madprofessah! We tried that place years ago from all the hype. It was ok and we ALL got really sick after! I think its a hipster place, not good pizza.

The best pizza in Highland Park is Foliero's on Figueroa, near the movie theater. Fantastic crust and toppings. Cash only.
